Self Care Rituals

As a mom and entrepreneur, I am constantly trying to prioritize "self-care," but as one of the buzziest words out there these days it can be hard to cut through the noise to find what might really work for me. Over the years I've realized that it's mostly about time, finding and making time for me to do things that bring joy, sometimes alone and sometimes with other people.

·      Cooking an amazing meal (and not having to do the dishes afterwards)!

·      Moving my body in ways that honors where I'm at and how I'm feeling in that moment, sometimes it's a hard HIIT workout or a run and sometimes a soft yoga flow or stretching.

·      Going on a long walk and grabbing tea with a friend, just to catch up.

·      Exploring a new city and trying a new food.

·      Listening to my son giggle while he plays.

Self-care doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. Sure, a monthly massage/facial or week alone in a resort sounds glorious but these aren't in the cards for me right now. Instead, I lean into what I know I can manage and honestly, I nearly always start with movement. This morning my kiddo woke up early, so I put another yoga mat down next to mine and we worked out together. He mostly played with his trains, but I got my butt kicked in an upper body workout with Tunde Oyeneyin @tune2tunde and still prioritized my physical and mental health by moving my body first thing in the morning.

Remember, you can't fill from an empty cup.
